Dairy farmers in Narok have a reason to increase production from the current 225,000 litres per day after the county government struck a deal with Mara Quality Foods Limited for the construction of a Sh255m milk plant.
Discussions are also underway for construction of a factory of similar value by the Oman Foodstuff Company.
The deal was announced after the first investors conference in the county held on December 3-4, and it was part of Sh54.7b worth investments, spanning across Agriculture, Education, Healthcare, Infrastructure, Energy and Tourism, confirmed after the two days.
The Mara deal promises to create 100 new jobs, same as those by the Omani company (if confirmed).
“With almost a quarter million litres of milk produced in Narok everyday, a milk plant would be a great investment,” said Governor Samuel Tunai.
Sh28.35billion of the total value of deals signed went to agricultural projects.
